On this project we where asked by Duckling to help them transform teddy bears into teddy bears made of glasses and then blow them up...

Who can say no to that!?

We quickly realized that this would require a robust simulation engine to not only handle the amount of glasses needed, but also an engine capable of simulating complex rigid body shapes.
After testing 4 different approaches we chose our favorite simulation package: Realflow, which we usually rely on for creating realistic and convincing liquid effects.

We wrote a bunch of tools to help us replace proxy models used in simulation with highres models for rendering, so we could quickly jump from a tweaked simulation to rendering.

Our efficient pipeline allowed the VFX team at Gungho to complete the 5 shots in just a week at 2K resolution.

We handed the renders over to Per Mørk-Jensen, Shake artist at Duckling, who composited our 3D renders and added Magic wand effects to the shots.
